Drought: 39 Departments Affected by Water Restrictions

The scorching heat of the week did not help the state of groundwater and streams. 39 departments are now affected by orders of restriction of water, against 30 on the 17th August.  Update on the situation in France.

This scorching week did not help the state of groundwater and streams in areas where water was scarce already. If the 17 August, 30 departments were affected by prefectural orders of the water use restrictions (beyond the simple vigilance), according to the Ministry of Environment, to August 26, they were 39.

These restrictions, which affect several areas of southern and western France, are of varying importance. They affect only a part of the departments concerned.

In total, no fewer than 103 orders currently in force. In addition to vigilance, there are three degrees. The alert (yellow on the map) which corresponds to a reduction of levies for agricultural purposes less than 50% (or ban until 3 days a week), to maneuver bans valve business water, the ban at certain times of watering gardens, parks, golf courses, or to wash his car.

The heightened alert (orange), which causes a reduction in withdrawals for agriculture than or equal to 50% (or greater than or equal ban to 3.5 days per week), a higher limit withdrawals for watering gardens, parks, golf courses, car washing, and that goes to the banning of certain levies

The last level is a crisis (red). The judgment of non-priority samples including levies for agricultural purposes is imposed. Only assessments to ensure the exercise of the priority uses are permitted (health, civil security, drinking water, sanitation).
