Formalized in 1995, the twinning between Chateaubriant and Athlone in Ireland is celebrating its 20th anniversary. This event will be held from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 next June a delegation of 29 Irish, including Patrick Keating, District Manager Athlone (President of the region), Thomas Farrell, Councillor (Councillor), Michael O’Brien, Councillor (Adviser municipal), and Mr. and Mrs. DALY, President of the Twinning Committee Athlone – Chateaubriant. Châteaubriant.  They will attend festivities which will begin on Friday evening, where, from 22:30, 5 singers, 5 musicians and Irish dancers from Athlone will perform outside the Hotel de Ville during the Fete de la Musique and play some traditional Irish music.

The next day, Saturday, June 20, the festival will continue with an official time at the Town Hall where all the players and officials of the twinning will be received by the Municipality before visiting the site at Choisel to plant a tree.  This symbolic act will renew and further strengthen the sealed union there has been for 20 years between the Irish town of Athlone and the town of Châteaubriant.  Castelbriantais and Athloniens  will then meet in a friendly atmosphere around a buffet served at the Borderie.
